Karuna Ghar Foundation began with a simple yet powerful vision — to provide care, shelter, and education for underprivileged children. What makes our story unique is that it all started in an unused toilet near Upvan Lake in Thane.
With just two children, our journey began. These two little ones became our first ambassadors, reaching out to find others like them — children of single parents, unable to afford school or basic necessities. Convincing families in the early days was not easy. But with persistence, compassion, and the support of passionate youth volunteers from St. Xavier's College (Town), we gradually built trust and community support.
Today, we're proud to share that some of our children are now pursuing college degrees, and two of our youngest are enrolled in a reputed convent school — a dream that once felt out of reach.
At the heart of Karuna Ghar is Belinda Pereira, lovingly known as Amma, who founded the organization with deep compassion and an unshakable commitment to serve. By her side is Lawrence Massey, a devoted helping hand who has supported the mission every step of the way.
At Karuna Ghar, our mission goes beyond children — we continue to reach out to people in need, from the young to the elderly, especially during disasters and critical situations. Wherever there is a cry for help, we strive to respond with compassion, dignity, and hope
